Machine Vision Lighting by Industry – Real Applications & Product Tips

From Pharma to Automotive: How Lighting Solves Real Problems

Machine vision lighting isn’t one-size-fits-all. The best setup depends entirely on your industry, object, and inspection goal. Here’s how top sectors use lighting to drive quality and efficiency.

1. Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices

Challenge: Inspect transparent vials, pills in blister packs, or syringe fill levels—without touching the product.

Solutions:

  • Backlighting: Creates sharp silhouettes to detect air bubbles or missing tablets.

  • Infrared (IR) Lighting (850–940 nm): Sees through plastic blister packs to verify pill presence or read imprints.

  • SWIR (1450–1550 nm): Detects moisture in wipes or capsules (water absorbs strongly in this band).

2. Electronics & Semiconductors

Challenge: Find microscopic solder defects, read laser-etched codes, or inspect LCD screens.

Solutions:

  • Dark-field ring/bar lights: Highlight solder bridges as bright lines on dark PCBs.

  • Coaxial lighting: Eliminates glare on silicon wafers or glass displays.

  • UV lighting + fluorescence: Verify conformal coating or adhesive application using UV-reactive dyes.
